Dress and fashion sculpture inspired by the luxury and architectural splendor of Radio City Music Hall.

Fashion sculpture for the Madison Avenue BID's "Hemlines from Skylines," an outdoor public art exhibition in collaboration with the BFA Design department at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. The installation featured 14 fashion sculptures inspired by New York architecture, from classic monuments to modern additions to the ever-growing landscape of the city.

The sculpture, which strikes a pose and takes a nod to the Radio City Rockettes, draws inspiration from the opulent Art Deco auditorium. The dress is constructed with materials akin to those used in the actual construction of the music hall from the velvet and silk to the gold leaf. The sculpture features over 12,500 Swarovski crystals, Dutch gold leafing, and yards of silk chiffon fabrics, in ribboned swags like the iconic curtain.

Hemlines From Skylines was on view on Madison Avenue through New York Fashion Week FW 2019. Special thanks to Micha Bentel for her assistance in the fabrication of this piece. Photography by Filipa Mota.
